The Friends of Paros, the Archaeological Institute of Paros and Cyclades and KDEPAP organised a lecture by the distinguished archaeologist Dr Foteini Zafeiropoulou, who has been working in Paros since the 1960s, on “The uniqueness of the archaeological resources of Paros: the challenge of preserving and promoting them”.
The event took place on 19 April 2012 at Archilochos Hall and was attended by 70 participants keenly interested in the unique archaeological heritage of Paros.
Dr Zafeiropoulou gave a high-level presentation of the archaeological treasures of Paros, which include the oldest group burial of warriors (photos 1 & 2), the oldest sculpted stele (photo 3) and the ancient cemetery at Parikia. She concluded with a plea for the preservation of the ancient cemetery at the seafront of Parikia, which in importance is surpassed only by Kerameikos in Athens, and for the creation of visitors’ facilities.

The lecture was an important event in the 2012 calendar of activities of the FoP and aimed to project the cultural assets of the island and enhance its attractiveness as a quality tourism destination.
