The Friends of Paros, in an effort to contribute to the development of quality tourism and the lengthening of the tourist period conducted from June to September 2012 a survey in order to establish the characteristics, preferences and expectations of visitors to Paros and what will attract them to visit again in both the high and low season.
The analysis of the data obtained through the survey covers the profile of visitors, method of travel, duration and place of stay, method of booking, spending by visitors, use of facilities and satisfaction, reasons for visiting and potential for visits in spring and autumn.
The preliminary conclusions show that the development of the island’s tourism can rely on the preponderance of discerning visitors and that there is considerable scope for lengthening the tourist season. They vindicate the aspirations of the FoP and “Paros 2020” which has argued that the island’s income from tourism can significantly be raised without a further increase in the numbers of visitors (and the consequent pressures on the environment and the infrastructure of the island, and ultimately the irreversible destruction of its character).
