A Journey into the Underwater World of the Cyclades
The latest addition to the Friends of Paros and Antiparos collection marks a significant milestone for those who value preserving culture and history. With “Paros: Cycladic Culture & Gastronomy” and “François Jean’s Photographs” setting the tone for the collection, this third book continues the legacy of celebrating the beauty and richness of the Cycladic islands. All three books are available at the “Anagenisi” bookshop in Parikia.
This book is the third volume of a collection published under the aegis of the Association of Friends of Paros and Antiparos. This unique collection of trilingual books showcases the beauty, the culture, and the past and present history of our two islands to better prepare for their future. Our association was created twenty years ago by eleven people to unite in a common effort in favour of a sustainable and united development, respectful of the Cycladic character of the two islands and their inhabitants – whether they are Greek or from all over the world.
Therefore, our association is representative of a new sociological reality of the population of Paros and Antiparos by its diversity in the current European context. This combination of talents, cultures and the resulting synergies are promising for a brighter future. It is a real privilege to introduce this captivating exploration into the underwater realm of Paros.
Many of us at the Association of Friends of Paros and Antiparos have witnessed firsthand the remarkable beauty and the delicate balance of the marine ecosystems surrounding our beloved islands. This book invites you on a journey beneath the waves to discover a world as mesmerising as it is vital, a world which is a part of our heritage and the history of our islands. Through the pages of this book, you will encounter the vibrant colours and the intricate dynamics of life under the Aegean Sea. Each photograph tells a story and is a silent testimony of the wonders that lie beneath the surface. The insights provide a deeper understanding of the fragile marine ecosystems and the absolute necessity to protect them. Our mission at Friends of Paros and Antiparos has always been to preserve the natural beauty of our islands. This book is an extension of that mission. It serves not only as a testament to the splendour of the underwater world of Paros but also as a reminder of our duty to safeguard these treasures for future generations. Enjoy the exploration. Let it inspire you, as it has inspired us, to become stewards of our oceans and custodians of a legacy that transcends time and tide.
