Lately, a bad habit seems to be taken by the inhabitants of Paros, both permanent and temporary: anyone who has old furniture, mattresses, electrical and all kinds of appliances, but also anything that the human mind can imagine, carries them out of the houses or the warehouses and “throws” them next to the municipality’s garbage bins, in public view, but also in stream beds and wherever it suits! The spectacle is repulsive and is not consistent with a civilized community, nor with an island that pretends to target qualitative tourism. Such habits should be broken before they become an ingrained behaviour, because as the popular saying states: “First leaves the soul of a person and then his quirks”! All this even though the Municipality operates a special service to collect large items, which comes to the house of any interested person everywhere in Paros, with a simple phone call (22840 24059)…The Friends of Paros & Antiparos consider that the issue of garbage collection and waste management is extremely important for the island, for environmental, public health and quality of life concerns! To solve these problems, the Friends of Paros & Antiparos will request a meeting with Mayor Kovaios, to find solutions and prepare a campaign in Greek and English, aiming to raise awareness of both residents and visitors.
