The Friends of Paros and Antiparos, after holding a number of seminars and conferences on the subject, set up a new non-profit association two years ago with 5 other Paros associations – Archilochos, Marathi, the Athens Parians Association, the Paros and Antiparos Hoteliers Association and the Archaeological Institute of Paros – in association with the local authorities and in liaison with the Ephorate of Antiquities and the Ministry of Culture.
The aim is to create an archaeological park to showcase the history of these quarries, renowned for their marble. We refer you to this article, which describes the activities of this new company.
Today, the first steps have been taken to acquire the land on which the old quarries are located. A number of explanatory panels have also been erected to make your visit to the site even more informative.
But this new structure, which does not receive any public funding, needs additional funds to finance, for example, studies to check the safety of visits to the ancient quarries, to check the structural soundness of the old industrial buildings that will be used in the future to house a museum, or to finance information leaflets for the general public, etc.
This is why the Friends of Paros and Antiparos are launching a fundraising campaign aimed at the residents of and visitors to Paros. You can make any financial contribution you feel able to make to the Friends of Paros account (details below). No administration fees will be deducted from the amounts raised, which will be paid in full to the new company. A report on the amount of funds raised and their use will be made public.
